Join MWO's OpenStages company for two fully staged public performances of Purcell’s masterpiece Dido & Aeneas at Brecon Cathedral.
The culmination of an inspirational week of music-making and rehearsals in Brecon and Hay, involving professionals, students and amateur musicians, the opera will be sung in its original English libretto and accompanied by MWO's OpenStages orchestra.
The tragic tale of the love between Dido, Queen of Carthage and Aeneas, destroyed by the malevolent interference of a sorceress and her spirits, plays out in spell-binding songs and stirring and moving choruses, leading inevitably to Dido’s heart-aching final lament.
When I am laid in earth, may my wrongs create no trouble in thy breast. Remember me, but ah! forget my fate... Dido’s Lament
Please note, Saturday 3pm is a relaxed, daylight performance.
